Welcome to TechnovateHer

Women, especially minority women, are significantly underrepresented in Canada's tech industry. According to a report by the Brookfield Institute, women make up only 25% of Canada’s tech workforce, and the representation is even lower for minority women. Women of color, including Black, Indigenous, and other racialized groups, hold fewer than 10% of tech jobs in the country. This lack of diversity highlights the systemic barriers preventing women from entering and thriving in the technology sector.

Despite the growing demand for tech professionals, with over 216,000 tech-related job openings expected in Canada by 2028, these roles remain largely inaccessible to underrepresented women. Research consistently shows that companies with diverse teams are more innovative and profitable, yet gender bias, lack of mentorship, and limited access to education continue to be significant obstacles for women and minority women.

For minority women, the gap is even more pronounced. Women of colour face dual challenges of gender and racial discrimination, resulting in fewer opportunities for advancement, lower pay, and limited representation in leadership positions.

Addressing these disparities is crucial for fostering innovation and ensuring that Canada’s tech industry reflects the diversity of its population. Expanding opportunities in education, mentorship, and inclusion for women and minority women in tech is essential for creating equitable access to the rapidly growing field of digital innovation.
